Back at the Birth Center

Today we had our first prenatal appointment back at the birth center and we were very excited to be there again with the renewed hope of having a healthy baby. It was a pretty typical visit and the midwife who we saw (she was the one who diagnosed me with PCOS back in October) said she'd never been happier to look at a patient's chart and see the word "pregnant". That was sweet of her and she seems to be one of our biggest cheerleaders!

I weighed in and, not knowing my exact pre-pregnancy weight, I think I've gained a couple pounds already. My belly definitely popped out much sooner this time around which is nice to see. We discussed seeing a perinatologist to keep a close eye on things, as well as precautions to take while we're in Italy (so excited for that!). Sam (the midwife) then decided she wanted to check for the heartbeat with the fetal doppler "just for fun". We knew we may not be able to hear it being that I'm only 8.5 weeks along, but gave it a shot. She searched and searched with no luck, but not wanting to relent, she had me lay on my belly for a few minutes, then quickly flip over and check so that hopefully the baby would be at the front. She found him! He only stuck around for less than a minute and then swam off, but it was good to hear.

We were given an estimated due date of February 8th. Sam said she'd try to get us set up with the genetic counselor before we left for Italy, so I'm hoping we can check in one more time before we take off for two and a half weeks. Still feeling really good - fatiguing faster, eating a bit more and just feeling slightly "off" sometimes, but not much else going on with morning sickness.
